Constantinos S. Hillas (aka Konstantinos S. Cheilas, due to the official ELOT transliteration) was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1967. He received the B.Sc. degree in Physics, in 1989, and the M.Sc. degree in Electronic Physics – Radioelectrology, in 1996, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Thessaloniki, Greece, and, in 2000, the M.Sc. degree in Information Systems from the University of Macedonia (UM), Thessaloniki, Greece.

He has completed his PhD degree in Telecommunications at the Department of Physics, AUTH, under the supervision of Professor John Sahalos. The thesis explored the use of appropriate user profiling in telecommunications and networking in order to detect fraudulent activity in telecom networks. His basic research interests expand this work and also entail the study of network security issues, user characterization and data mining techniques in telecommunications.

From 1993 to 1996 he worked as Computer Administrator in Rector's Office, Aristotle University, while from 1996 to 2002, he was the Administrator of the Telecommunications Network of AUTH. During his postgraduate studies, he was a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Physics, AUTH, as well as in the Postgraduate Program of UM. He has given many seminars and lessons and has specialized in distance learning methods. In 2002, he was elected Lecturer at the Department of Informatics and Communications, Technological Educational Institute of Serres, Greece. He received tenure in 2004, was promoted to Assistant Professor in November 2007, to Associate Professor in October 2013 and to Professor in October 2018. Dr. Hilas is the author or co-author of several research articles on user modeling and fraud detection in telecommunications, networking services, signal processing and the application of artificial intelligence techniques on telecommunications related problems ( Google Scholar Author Profile ).

Dr. Hilas has been a scholar of the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and the UM. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, Silver Member of ISACA, and member of FITCE, the Hellenic Society of Physicists and the Greek Computer Society.
